PATIENT:
59 year old Caucasian female.
DIAGNOSIS:
CHF, RA, NIDDM, COPD, Osteoporosis, Bronchitis, Hypertension;
Anemia, GI bleeding, Prior multiple joint replacements.
MEDICAL HISTORY:
Patient "bumped" left calf on a wheelchair.
Area exacerbated from a bruise to a larger
ulceration. Patient also taking 150mg. Predisone
QD. Various wound techniques were employed
without progression. Amputation recommended.
TREATMENT:
Daily dressing changes consisting of cleansing
the wound with saline, application of AmeriGel® Wound
Dressing, moist saline gauze and covered with ProFore
compression garment.
RESULTS:
Overall size of wound 200.25cm x 8cm initially,
and measured 140.82cm x 4cm 6 days later (30%
reduction in size.) Wound was reduced 88% in
66 days. Ulcer considered closed 08/15/98
and did not required additional debridement
during entire treatment.
