Guaze Dressing Gause Dressing

"Maintains an optimal wound
             environment"

What is It?
AmeriGel® Gauze Dressing is the first and only FDA-approved, antimicrobial/antifungal hydrogel impregnated gauze. It is indicated for stage I-IV pressure ulcers, diabetic skin ulcers, venous stasis (insufficiency) ulcers, 1st and 2nd degree burns, post-surgical incisions (dehiscence), cuts and abrasions.

What makes it unique?
AmeriGel® Gauze Dressing is the only impregnated gauze dressing on the market today with Oakin™. Extracted from nature, Oakin™ provides antimicrobial, antifungal and aggressive autolytic debriding properties. In a MIC test, Oakin™ demonstrated bactericidal activity (in-vitro) against 49 gram + and gram - microbes, including Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Pseudomonas, Candida and Trichophyton mentagrophytes. Other ingredients include Zinc Acetate, well known for its skin protective properties and Polyethylene Glycol, which helps to maintain a moist wound environment. As a wound filler, AmeriGel® can be utilized to wick or pack wounds, used under compression and changed daily.

Why does it work?
AmeriGel®’s primary mechanisms of action are to decrease cell membrane permeability, proliferate proteins to the wound bed, prompt wound contracture and promote the development of granulation tissue without being cytotoxic to fibroblasts. AmeriGel® helps to combat infection, reduce wound bioburden and provide an antimicrobial barrier to prevent infections.

How can AmeriGel® aid in debridement?
Ordinary glycerin or saline-based impregnated gauze merely maintain a moist wound environment that enables the removal of necrotic or devitalized tissue. Oakin™ assists to lyse or break down necrotic tissue and softens eschar, often without the need for more costly enzymatic agents. AmeriGel® is not tissue selective; therefore it can be used on red, black or yellow wounds. Some dense fibrin caps or tenacious fibrin deposits may need to be mechanically removed.

How does AmeriGel® stay moist for up to SEVEN days when exposed to air?
When evaluating an impregnated gauze, many wound care specialists simply open one and leave it open, to see how long it retains moisture. Typical saline or glycerin-based impregnated gauzes usually dry out within 24-48 hours. However, due to its unique polyethylene glycol base, AmeriGel® remains moist for up to seven days without maceration. This slower evaporation is ideal when used in an Unna boot or a multiple layer compression device.
